How do we secure Shared channels and would this be the ideal solution for collaboration?
- darrellaasNov 09, 2021MVPKeep in mind Jerry that files will be stored in SharePoint for shared channels. The files are covered by the usual features that SharePoint offers. This is one of the reasons shared channels, like private channels, use a separate site collection. External sharing capabilities can be turned on and off for specific site collections. Shared channels will fall into that category if your organisation chooses to support them and external sharing. The other aspect of Shared channel security with external guests is that you have to use Azure B2B in place. It's a trust relationship between your organisation and the partnering guest org. It's not open to inviting any external guest.
- Nov 09, 2021Just would like to highlight that B2B collaboration is one thing and B2B direct connect another. The former for Azure AD guest access and the latter used by shared channels (Teams connect). There will be some differences when it comes to the security part but I'm not sure how much we can talk about it so I will leave it to Microsoft when it gets closer to GA as mentioned by John.
- Sivaprakash_saripalliNov 09, 2021Brass ContributorThanks for asking. This is a great question. There are multiple controls that can be used to manage/secure Shared channels. These include, 1. Control of the external organizations that your organization can collaborate with. 2. Per-User policies to control which users can create and share shared channels. 3. IT admin can view and manage shared channels.

- Nov 09, 2021Hi JerryZhangMS Nguyen, Would recommend catching up on this session at Ignite https://myignite.microsoft.com/sessions/cfcdfdfa-7401-414d-ab61-4e834281e7ae?source=sessions This discuss shared channels (teams connect). Shared channels should come with many of the security features that we see today in Microsoft 365. Hope that helps and answers your question Best, Chris

Great answers in here and as I mentioned, we will be sharing more detailed information on specific security and compliance capabilities as we get closer to GA
