Tech Community Live: AMA – Linux management
Event details
Thank you for possibility to get in touch with you. I have several questions:
- How will users connect to Endpoint Manager? Will it be standalone software, or you will use realmd and smb?
- Which types of Linux will be supported? (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, ArchLinux, etc.)
- How users will be controlled at endpoints? (sudo command, access to certain files (shadow, etc))
- How will be packets controlled at endpoints? (installed packets, actual versions, etc.)
- How will be disk encryption controlled (Like Bitlocker on Windows devices)
- Remote update, installation, removal of packets, will it be possible through endpoint manager
- Will USB be controlled?
- Is it possible to DLP control endpoints on linux machines?

Hey Bogdan -
- There is a standalone Intune agent that will get installed on managed endpoints that will take care of both registering the device with AAD and enrolling the device with Endpoint Manager
- We're starting with Ubuntu LTS releases, but looking to extend to other distributions with help from the community to prioritize!)
With our first release, we'll be focusing on compliance reporting for managed devices. The standard compliance policies include requiring disk encryption, password complexity requirements, and reporting on required distributions / OS version. Additionally, custom compliance scripting will be supporting, allowing you to author compliance checks for any conditions you want to monitor on managed endpoints.
Package management, USB control, sudo config management etc. would all fall under the heading of configuration management, which won't be available at general availability but will be in a future release.
