Is the plan to remove the ability to update drivers through the Windows Update Ring policies in favour of the new approach?

In addition, you will need to ensure you haven't set the Drivers setting in Update Rings or Settings Catalog to "block", since this will prevent drivers from being installed. Someday, we might remove that driver setting from Update Rings, but for now, we'll have both until there's been a smooth transition to the new driver policies.- Bryan Keller
We don't plan to remove that. However, the new solution offers a more complete drivers list with enhanced controls.
