For macOS apps, are there plans to offer Detection scripts?
- benjamin_flamm
Microsoft
Can you share more on the specific scenario you're hoping to achieve?
- rrenstromBrass Contributor
A custom detection script would offer additional flexibility to determine if an app/package is already installed (beyond the built-in detection rules for app bundle/package receipt ID that are offered for Unmanaged macOS PKGs).
A specific scenario I recently had was the need to re-install a security app that was already installed, but switch to a different activation key (bundled in the package). With a custom detection script I would be able to check if the existing activation key on the device was correct, and if not return a non-zero exit code in the script to signal the package as "not installed", to cause Intune to re-install it with the new activation key.
There are other cases where the script may need to check for the existence of a particular file path of something else to determine whether it's already installed.

hi, same for deploying MS Office apps, we deploy MS apps with the sem-channel option, we recently update the version and it failed the deployment as some MS apps were opened, is MS looking to add more oprtions, like defferals, toast notifications or something of the sort, to avoid creating extra PS scripts or configs>

Alex_Avila We are investigating adding Running App detection, but since many apps have far more exe's running than just the main one, it's a challenging. David talks about this challenge around the 46:00 mark. Not related to Running App detection, he answers it relating to Software Metering. But same challenge.
- abhishek_singh192Occasional Reader
Are we building anything like software metering. Usage reports are really important for licensed apps. If there is any custom solution, could you please recommend?

Another fantastic question if I don't say so myself -- I have had several scenrios where I need to specify Powershell 32 bit since its a legacy app. after several failures over and over (thankfully Copilot helped here) the apps ended up needing 32 bit.
is this known by intune engineers and is there a plan to specify 32 or 64 bit so we can flip back and forth with failures- Jason_Sandys
Microsoft
Yes, this is a known behavior that is the result of the nature of 32-bit vs 64-bit Windows and the fact that the IME in Intune is 32-bit and thus, by default, launches 32-bit binaries. There are multiple ways to handle this including using the sysnative alias: File System Redirector - Win32 apps | Microsoft Learn. There are wrapper scripts as well that can be used which can easily be used with the recent release of scripts for Win32 apps (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/intune-service/fundamentals/whats-new#powershell-script-installer-for-win32-apps-).
I fully acknowledge that these options aren't as graceful as having a simple checkbox in the UI to select a behavior based on the OS architecture (or something similar), but for today that's what we have. Please file feedback on this in the Intune admin center if you feel strongly that we should implement something to more directly address this.

What are Microsoft's thoughts about the community tool PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit (PSADT )? Could Microsoft partner with this community?
- Jason_Sandys
Microsoft
We love partners and the community building useful solutions and tools that complement our solutions. PSADT is no different. With the recent release of scripts for Win32 apps, using PSADT as well as any other standard or non-standard wrapper scripts is even easier (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/intune-service/fundamentals/whats-new#powershell-script-installer-for-win32-apps- for details).
Are there specific features that are either critical for you to have or that would significantly improve your admin experience or abilities if we added them natively to Intune?
- TanevOccasional Reader
The apps in Enterprise App Management, are we going to be able to download and review the package itself. For example if you are using PSappdeploymenttoolkit (or any other) can we review the code for the deployment and eventually use it as template to create our own package, that will include additional steps related to our company. For instance adding a settings config for Nvidia Control Panel.

Microsoft
Tanev We do not have any plans to offer a download and review for Enterprise App Management, but if you could let us know why this would be important, it could help us prioritize any investigations. What I mean is, the Enterprise App catalog is a catalog of apps which we have already made into .intunewin files, but you still have the option to create your own and deploy as Win32 apps. Any reason you can't do this for those packages that you need to download and review? Please DM Nicole_Zhao and myself.

When talking about Application Inventory, are there plans to add Edge or other browser extentions to Intune AppInventory?
- David_Guyer
Microsoft
TastyPastry
Great question! It is something I'm looking into and considering. There are some interesting challenges, but I'm hopeful we can provide some value here. Are you really just interested in Edge extensions, is that the most important to you? Or are there other apps that would be high value as well?
Thank you,-David Guyer : Principal Product Manager Intune

I've been asking about an extension manager similar to Google Admin Center's Chrome Manager for years but it's never materialized. If you're opening the door I'd like to have it include the multitude of Microsoft products like extensions in Visual Studio, VS Code, Edge, Copilot (Studio, M365, Azure, etc.), etc.

Are there any plans to have the user the ability to interact with an installation. Similar to how SCCM has the option for users? This would be huge for 3rd party apps that don't have support for fully automated installations.
- Joe_Lurie
Microsoft
coronaj1 No plans today to allow for non-silent installations. However, you could use a Script - not script installer, but send a PowerShell script to the device from the Devices > Scripts node, and kick off installation this way. It's not a perfect solution but it should work. Please 👍 or file feedback at our Intune Feedback site (https://aka.ms/IntuneFeedback). I found this one that you can upvote: Create non-silent installs · Community

For app deployments during Autopilot, is there plans for being able to select a sequence for the required apps? Now that we have required apps in the ESP profile it seems to not be to difficult to manage that.
Have them selected in different orders in the ESP profile or choose like 1,2,3.. - Sunil825312Copper Contributor
Just to add, I also need to add that app to managed Home Screen to 15 devices not to all 500, including the deployment to 15 of these tablets out of 500.

Thanks for this additional context! This was considered when Abigail answered your question here.
