How does M365 detect what Office update channel each machine has configured? Is it based on access logs?

For our pilot we just ran a command to update the Registration Key which also pushed an app update. cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun OfficeC2RClient.exe /changesetting Channel=Current OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user
