May 24, 2023my customer asked me, if the old namespaces will be switched off, after the new ones have been introduced?
He is worrying about any 3rd party apps using the old namespace that he has no control of within his environment.
In case the answer is yes (will be switched off), what is the timeline?

There is a distinction here - for simple redirects (e.g. outlook.office.com->outlook.cloud.microsoft) we expect those will continue to work for as long as they are being used. But for apps that hard-code APIs those app developers will need to update to the new domains. As products that have these 3rd party app considerations transition we plan to provide ample notice so these scenarios continue to work. Note no action is required or expected today.- FrankPlawetzkiMay 24, 2023

Thanks Brian, Sorry, I do not fully understand your first statement: "There is a distinction here - for simple redirects (e.g. outlook.office.com->outlook.cloud.microsoft) we expect those will continue to work for as long as they are being used." Are you saying this means a DNS redirection? If yes, customer or Microsoft DNS, which DNS is responsible? In case the old namespaces stay in place, there would be no need for the 3rd party developers to change their code. Will they? Until when?- Brian_HassanMay 24, 2023

Yes, I was referring to Microsoft-owned DNS redirects. Those should continue to work so users land in the appropriate new domains even if they were typing the older domains. But other hard-coded APIs will be required to be updated over time. Ultimately it depends on what you've hard-coded and the specifics of the scenario. In either case, we will communicate when you DO have to make changes so that customers are able to transition accordingly.
