will it be possible to arrange the channels in the Team Manually (drag and drop ) and not A-Z ? what was the reason that General Channel name cant be used ?
- Roshin Ramesan
Microsoft
The new experience allows users to organize their channels in sections, or view channels as a list where additional sorting options including Recent and Custom are supported.
Based on customer feedback, General channels can now be renamed so that the name reflects the purpose of channel, focusing the collaboration.

Does Microsoft ever plan on getting document management parity in Teams and finally getting rid of the need for users to "Open in SharePoint"?
Maybe Teams should be updated to use SharePoint Embedded instead of a connected SharePoint Team site.
Allowing users to work with files in SharePoint and/or Teams ultimately diminishes the experience in Teams...and is probably part of what has lead to this change...people seem to think Group Chats are a better option than Teams Channels.
One big thing to me that set Teams apart from Slack, since the beginning of Teams, was that Teams had "native" file storage...where Slack did not.
In the beginning, it seemed like Teams was going to be a replacement for SharePoint Team Sites. And this made a lot of sense, Teams would offer a better collaborative experience along with document management all in one application.
Teams would be a great replacement for example for corporate Departments that had been using SharePoint Team sites.
The problem with this is that Microsoft never commit to removing the Teams UI reliance on SharePoint. Over the years, Teams users still struggle to manage documents in Teams vs having to go to the connected SharePoint site to do certain tasks.

Thanks for the feedback, Kevin.
The Files tab within channels has rich functionality without having to go to SharePoint site. If there is specific functionality you are looking for, please do file that as a feedback request in the Teams feedback portal (or via in app feedback) for future consideration. - JaynaBrass Contributor
What functionality are you experiencing users requiring going to SharePoint Team Site for?

This new feature seems that it relies heavily on @ mentions. How does that affect the use of channels for generally sharing information?
Does @mentioning that channel solve for that?
That dynamically changes how channels operate.

The new experience makes it much easier to stay on top of personal mentions, which users tell us are some of the most important messages they need to triage on priority.
There are lots more improvements to how users can stay on top of channels and not miss conversations even if they are not directly mentioned - unread filter, organize into sections and more.

Are there any performance (CPU/Memory Usage) improvements along with the UI Changes?
- Roshin Ramesan
Microsoft
The new experience is designed to be better or same as new Teams, which was twice as fast with half the memory.
The goal of the new experience is to help users stay on top better, with all conversations in one place, and collaborate effectively.

When is it planned to be GA ?
- Roshin Ramesan
Microsoft
Second half of January. Please continue to watch the roadmap and Message Centre for updates.

Is there going to be any changes to the way SharePoint sites and file storage is handled for channels?
- Roshin Ramesan
Microsoft
This is a user experience improvement, and there are no changes to how SharePoint or OneDrive works with channels and chats.

What does the Teams Team think about the confusion around the word “Teams”, and is this a stepping stone towards addressing that? For example explaining to another team that a Team can be created in their teams' Teams section of Teams so that their team can collaborate in a Team?
- KonbarlasBrass Contributor
Correct if I'm wrong, but I think it's not possible to mute individuals in a channel chat or in a group chat. Are there any plans to change that ?
You can mute a whole group chat, but I'm interested on the possibility to mute individuals.- NogaRonen
Microsoft
Could you provide more details about this scenario and your specific needs?
If someone is not related to the project or topic being discussed, please consider removing them from the group chat. Channel owners can also remove members from the channel if necessary.

In our organization, we have had lots of group chat adoption but slow to move into Teams/channels. Do you think this change will help us with adoption/training and encourage Teams/channels adoption?
- Roshin Ramesan
Microsoft
Thanks Susan.
Yes, helping users stay on top of channels and improve adoption is a key goal and outcomes of the new experience.
This change is designed to address user feedback around ability to stay on top of all their conversations including chats and channels. This will help with team and channel adoption as it makes it easier for users to bring all project related communications into one place and organize them into Favorites or custom sections.
All experiences like new message, unread filter, at-mentions and more have been enhanced to show both chats and channels, ensuring that channels are in the flow of work for all users.
