Windows Crash During NVMe Over TCP Disk Disconnect

While evaluating the Windows NVMe Initiator, we have observed that disconnecting an NVMe disk frequently results in a Windows system crash.

This occurs during the disconnect operation and appears to be reproducible in our test environment.

Questions:

  • Has anyone else encountered similar behavior?
  • Are there any known issues related to NVMe/TCP disconnect handling?
  • Are there recommended troubleshooting steps, logs, or diagnostics that we should collect to help identify the root cause?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi ketanbaitule, because this is a crash during NVMe over TCP disconnect, the most useful thing is to collect proper debug information rather than only describing the symptom. I would record the exact Windows Server Insider build, NIC model and driver version, storage target details, and the steps used to disconnect the disk. Also check Event Viewer for storage, network, or bugcheck events around the crash time. If a memory dump is generated, keep it. Since this is on an Insider build, file it through Feedback Hub or the Insider channel with the repro steps and dump details, because Microsoft will likely need kernel-level data to investigate.
