MicrosoftUnable to import WS2025 Container image on WS2025 Host VM
I am trying to import WS2025 container image (major version 26080) to WS2025 host (major version 26100) and getting this exception:
ctr: failed to extract layer sha256:f7edee802958b0e4875736525...
- Consider it solved sind 26212 is out now :D. I needed just a tiny bit more patience on my side.
Wait, the WS build 26100 is already out? Did I miss the posting?

@decirc123, you are trying to use a pre-release Container on a retail Host OS, which is not supported for licensing reasons. Please see here for documentation:

Now that the Windows Server 2025 Public Preview is out which is on build 26100, I'm assuming that is what is going to be the Retail version build?
Is there a retail version of the container for Windows Server 2025 build 26100 that we can use? Right now, that public preview can only run the older Windows Server 2022 LTSC containers and can't run any of the Insider ones of course.- MSBernsteinGood question. The retail version of the container will not be available until GA -- there is a bunch of licensing/business work that gets done between now and then, and we're not quite ready for the production-signed container media to go out until the licensing work is complete.
My recommendation is to do exactly what Joachim did - go *past* retail to 26200+ and test there.
