Upgrading from Windows server 2012 to Windows server on 2016 on AWS
Hi Expert's, We have around 25+ Windows 2012 Standard servers running on AWS EC2, and unfortunately AWS does not have an automated utility for version prior to Windows 2012 R2's. I came across Storage Migration Services, but I could read in the FAQs that it won't migrate my applications which is my prime need. Could you please guide me with the best way to deal with this? Thanks, Dalbir
Sounds like you're asking about an in-place upgrade. In-place upgrades are never recommended for a number of reason including corruption carry-forward. Best option is a clean installation, then migrate the roles or applications over to new instance.
That being said it is risky but possible to do by running setup.exe from the root of the installation media.
