Windows system UserProfileService service login failed

When I turn on my computer, I get a message saying “UserProfileService service login failed.” After restarting several times, I can get to the desktop, but all the files on the C drive are gone (the files on the D drive are fine). How can I get my desktop files back? Could this be related to a corrupted user profile?

When you log in, Windows loads your user profile from C:\Users\[YourUsername]. This contains your Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Downloads, and App Data.
The error indicates that Windows failed to load this profile correctly. As a safety measure, it then logged you into a temporary profile. This is a blank, default profile, which is why your Desktop, Documents, etc., appear empty. Your files are almost certainly still on the C: drive, they are just not accessible from the temporary profile you're logged into.
