Windows system quick access bar icons disappear

When I try to add a folder back to Quick Access, I get a disk error. I followed the tutorial and deleted the .ms file. However, I can't find the AutomaticDestinations folder, even when I search for it manually or enter the command directly. I can't even find Recent. I haven't seen anyone else with the same problem.

  • This is a particularly frustrating Windows issue, but you're definitely not alone — it's just obscure. The "disk error" when adding folders to Quick Access typically means the database file that stores these links has become corrupted, but if the usual folders are missing entirely, we need to take a different approach.
