windows insider preview 10.0.26200.5518 won't install via Windows Update

Good day,

I am helping my friend with her laptop and the above update fails after taking around 12 hours to install via Windows Update. I raised this with Microsoft support and they referred us here.

The laptop was originally running Windows 10 home at the time of purchase.

A) is there any way of getting a standalone version of the above or any other way to install it - I've ran DISM Restore Health and SFC but this has not made a difference. Ive cleared out the SoftwareDistribution directory and attempted to run the Windows Update troubleshooter but it was unable to run.

If we were to attempt to revert to a standard copy of Windows, should we be doing an in place reinstall of Windows 10 home or Windows 11?

Thanks.

    Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and apply fixes.

It sounds like your friend's laptop is experiencing a challenging issue with installing the Windows Insider Preview build 10.0.26200.5518 via Windows Update, and you've already taken several troubleshooting steps.

Pause Insider Preview updates for 7 days, delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder, and try again.
