- WrethamCopper ContributorFor almost a year now., every other Windows 11 update messes with the sound settings.
I have a virtual studio setup here, and it is a ball-ache spending an hr, re-configuring sound channels and virtual cables on each update. Some updates don't even touch on the sound configuration - but there it is, messed up again after an update!
I can also confirm, other users I know who have Virtual studios setup (with a large variety of different software to my own) also have the same issue.
Not sure if MS will address this though. Be nice if they did.- dseufertCopper Contributor
Wretham I have just had the same problems. I am using DEV channel builds, and I have been having the sound problem on my Asus Vivobook laptop as well, seems to be an Asus problem?
Anyway I took one of the above solutions and it worked. I was all ready to install an old release build, but I tried loading the generic Microsoft driver and problem solved. If you have this problem, go to Device Manager and go down to Sound, Video and Game controllers, find the Realtek(R) Audio, click update driver, and choose the first option that just says "High Definition Audio Device" and install that, and then test your sound. Mine came right back, no need to reset or reinstall.

dseufert I gave up on 11 for now and clean installed the latest 10 21H2 or 21H2 don't remember which and not at PC. Ty for the info anyway. Trying to let MS get it a little more stable b4 I try a clean install of 11. Unsupported PC doesn't make it easier. Main issue is my 2600k. 2nd gen. proc. on a 3rd gen board. Asrock Z77 Extreme4. No SSD either but that's easily fixed. Built this rig when Ivy dropped and Sandy's prices dropped drastically. EVGA 1060 6gb running on only 2 lanes but you really can't tell. Doesn't bottleneck surprisingly. Intel built a brick s-house with the 2600k. Had it upto 4.9Ghz on a H70. Now 24/7 @4.4Ghz. Awesome chip. My PC never shuts down.

ok so I've already announced that my computer's sound went haywire when I first received the win11 update, at first it was bearable because I could plug my jack in halfway and it would work. now my sound is completely dead, I plug my headphones/headsets in, and the audio is all static and then dies. I've tested the same accessories on my phone and other computers, and it works just fine, win11 is pretty terrible in my eyes, and I'm wondering if Microsoft will ever fix it because sound isn't the only problem my computer's having with this dumb update. if you ask me this is a downgrade, and I wish I never installed this shit, does anyone have answers? windows 11 murdered my pc.
- Brian CCopper ContributorFigured that out myself to. Fought for 2 months and came out looking like Rocky after Apollo beat the stuffing out of him. Now running clean install of 10 but it still has issues not present before namely windows update doesn't want to play nice and I have to b slap it sometimes. Other than that 10 is running stable since clean install. Knock on wood.
- Ron WillsherCopper ContributorStill MS has NOT come up a answer for this 😞
It has been here since the first time win 11 was released 😞
- bloguser01394343431970Copper ContributorHey, I'm having similar problems, but instead of having no sound at all. My headphones only work on 1 side when I plug into the mic jack. It isn't a problem with my headphones because it does it with EVERY PAIR, I plug them in and it either plays on the Left or Right. it started on 01-14-22 when I first downloaded the win11 update, but I thought it was an internal error with my PC but when I restarted it and re-updated it happened again, and if I Barley plug them in it plays on both sides, but it sounds muffled and more trebly than it should. I've already tested plugging my headphones into other devices (they work in my phone and other computer.) I feel like it's a driver issue, but I could be wrong.
Is there a way to fix this? If anyone says "buy a new pc" I swear I'm just not going to use Headphones anymore, this thing costs like 800$ not buying another one.- Matty8960Copper ContributorNo no, don't buy anything. It's most certainly the last update on 01.14.2022, and besides those fixes, not sure if there is more you can do, at the moment.
The best solution is to try them out and wait, Microsoft is messing up things... more than usual.- Ron WillsherCopper ContributorIts NOT the update , The sound problem has been here since the first release

HenryYang I do have a same problem in my laptop.. Did anyone found solution for this issue
- Matty8960Copper Contributor
HI HenryYang
My friend and I had exactly the same problem! We've tried almost anything, without success(also some of the fixes here!). The thing that worked for me was resetting the Win Audio Service, there were some bugs at the beginning when I installed W11 but this fixed it. While he just reinstalled the sound driver and fix it in a few steps.
We followed this guide here, maybe will help you as well.Cheers guys

Several users are reporting sound and audio problems in the new Windows11 update. Below a few methods will be listed on how you can resolve this issue.
- Consider using a different audio format.
- Or check device Manger. The device manager is able to display information on all hardware devices installed in your system.
If the above solutions do not work, then you should consider reading a more comprehensive guide about Windows 11 audio, and sound fixes here.

- Ron WillsherCopper ContributorI have tried everything going as Windows says , BUT the same thing happened on the Upgrade to Win10 , Exactly the same problem .
The only answer was to Buy a new sound card 😞 😞
£50 if you want to buy the one I have https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Sound-Cards/Gaming/Xonar-AE/- JexessXIIICopper ContributorI found that with downloading the audio drivers for my ASUS Z490-E Gaming board, it installed two other Asus apps, Sonic Studio and Sonic radar. In the needed app, Realtek Audio Control, I had to unchecked the option for "turn on sound effects." This disabled the use of the Sonic apps and my audio came through. Apparently, Windows doesnt like the Asus sonic apps.

I have also experienced the same problem in my Lenovo Ideapad 3. You can resolve the issue in the Lenovo laptop as follows:
device manager> Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek (R) audio> Properties> Driver > Roll back driver
- MaxSaddy696Copper ContributorI had this problem and I couldn't figure it out. No sound from speakers, some sound from headphones and full sound from Bluetooth headphones. I disabled all enhancements and it's all back.
