Windows 11 multi monitor taskbar not working properly
- Jul 02, 2021
This is a "known" issue with the release. It's noted on the release notes.
https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/06/28/announcing-the-first-insider-preview-for-windows-11/ (near the bottom of the page).
Steps to get the Taskbar working on 2nd display monitor:
1. Go to Taskbar settings.
2. Expand Taskbar behaviors submenu.
3. There will be a checkbox on option- Show my taskbar on all displays with further down menu to select where do you want to show it.
4. Uncheck the checkbox and check it again.
It just removes the taskbar on 1st uncheck and it kind of refreshes the taskbar and all the icons are displayed now.
NOTE: I have not restarted my computer as of now, so I don't know if it will be there after restart or not. But doing it again will not be a hassle.
I hope it helps 🙂

@nishant2811. It worked in the current session only. If I restart my laptop, it just show some icon. I can see the taskbar is there when I hoover over it, I can see an outline of the icon and I can click to run the app. Hopefully someone in MS is taking this one in their next patch. It's annoying as I use a big screen switching between 2 laptop and it works perfect on my Win10 laptop.

nishants2811 I'm in the same situation. If I start my laptop and monitor at the same time, it works OK. However I use a hdmi switch to connect the monitor to my work laptop running win10. If I swap between these 2, the monitor do shows the taskbar and I can see the outline of the icon when I hoover over it but not showing the icon. It's not end of the world but small thing like this should be all tested well before it is released.
- shawncicDec 12, 2021Copper Contributorthis worked perfectly... thanks for posting.
- britininiDec 07, 2021Copper ContributorThis worked for me, thank you!
- JoetheCounselorDec 01, 2021Copper ContributorThanks for trying! This is more or less what other people have offered and I have done it multiple times with no changes. No taskbar on the secondary monitor unless I turn off autohide. I think the bug lies in it being always auto hidden because you can't rest the cursor on the base of the taskbar, as I have mine vertically, though moving it to the side doesn't seem to help, either.
- BrentJohnDec 01, 2021Brass ContributorFor my case, it doesn't work. In fact, if I do this once it's functioning properly, it actually causes the problem.
Appreciate the suggestion, though.- nishants2811Dec 01, 2021Copper ContributorWhat kind of problem you are facing after doing this?
- BrentJohnDec 01, 2021Brass ContributorTaking the steps you mentioned breaks the autohide feature of the taskbar on my second monitor if it's already working.
