Windows 10 Insider Preview 10.0.17692.1004 (RS_PRERELEASE_FLT)
When I try to install Windows 10 Insider Preview 10.0.17692.1004 (RS_PRERELEASE_FLT) on my system if fails and I get this cryptic error message- An update is being prepared for your device, but it's not quite ready yet. We'll keep trying or you can try again now.
I have tried clearing the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and the DataStore.edb file but this has not worked. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Andy.

This method worked for me.
I changed what kind of content would you like to receive to "The next version of Windows" and the pace at with I wanted to get new builds to Fast. I then ran the update troubleshooter. The first time I ran the update I received an error message, I then retried and this time the upgrade worked. HTH.

Sometimes I wonder if it's even useful to be on the Slow Ring. There are no help resources anywhere, and nobody pays any attention because anybody that can help is on the Fast Ring. And yes, the Slow Ring build .1004 has more fixes than the same Fast Ring build .1000

Yes - I know. But I have test machines in both the slow and fast rings, and both 32 and 64 bit, and this one for the slow ring is supposed to be the .1004 release, whereas the fast ring had the .1000 release.
And this one came through fine in the 32 bit version. Just not the 64 bit version.
- Earl DePassCopper ContributorFunny, I switched to Fast Ring to get Insider Preview build 17711 and that successfully installed.
- John SummersCopper Contributor
Same, as soon as I switched to fast ring the update dropped into place. Not AV or anything else, just a badly delivered update.

Same, have manually cleared SoftwareDistribution, used sfc & DISM, update troubleshooter etc and still the same error.
- Hannes RohreggerCopper Contributoryep done the same too . still same error
