When the Shell Says 12
In Canary builds, people keep debating whether this is “27H2” or something else.
But once you look in the right place inside the system, the question changes.
Why is the shell signed as version 12.\*🤔
And what does that mean for the Windows architecture?🤔
Canary isn’t a product branch.
And not everything inside it belongs to Windows 11.

It is the current version of winproj.exe. Not the rumored Windows 12.

Nobel_Baynes Sure, winproj.exe is part of the current builds. My point wasn’t to claim it’s Windows 12, but that ShellCompatibility is already operating with a 12. version. That’s an architectural detail, not a marketing name. What’s interesting is that this branch only started appearing in the newer builds.✌🏻
