What does the blue icon appearing in the AppData folder on the Windows 10 system mean?

After formatting the computer, all folders within the AppData directory now display blue icons. This phenomenon has not occurred previously. Can someone explain the meaning of these icons and whether any action is required?

The blue icons on folders in your AppData directory indicate that NTFS compression is enabled for those folders. After a format or reinstall, Windows sometimes applies compression automatically to save disk space, especially on systems with smaller drives.

It’s not harmful—your files will work normally—but they’re being stored in compressed form. If you’d prefer to turn it off, right-click the folder → Properties → Advanced → uncheck Compress contents to save disk space. Otherwise, you can safely leave it as-is; it just means Windows is helping conserve storage.
