Unable to update Windows 10 Insider Preview 17063.1000 (rs_prerelease)
- Dec 24, 2017
Hi,
This code refers to a possible driver issue, please refer to c:\windows\panther\setuperr.log & setupact.log to find out which driver is blocking your upgrade, if possible remove / update the driver / software for the upgrade
(if you get an access denied error on the logfile, just copy the files somewhere before opening them)
Hope this helps
Erik
All insiders,
Today is a remarkable day. 20 times a try to install preview 17063. Reassigned sata disks on original sata ports. No matter.
Windows 10 Insider Preview 17063.1000 (rs_prerelease) (3) (used all the windows tools to reset the update history and Dbase.)
Error code: 0xd0000001
Waiting for 17074.....

Hi all -
Hoping for some help here... I've been reading through the thread, and many of the posts are all too familiar. I've been been on the insider program with both laptops for a while now -- Dell XPS 15 9530 on Windows 10 Home (4 years old, updating fine - now on 17083), and my primary laptop - an XPS 15 9560 on Windows 10 Pro (a year old, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD). The 9560 is stuck on 17046 -- that's the last insider prerelease update that worked.
In general, the machine is functioning well, with the only anomaly being that the Intel Management Engine Components Installer will NOT install -- and I've had Dell engineers poking at this on two different one hour calls. They're now suggesting that I wait for a Windows Update that works, or consider a clean install of the production version. I'm hoping to 1) get the insider previews working again on this machine, and 2) getting the Intel installer to work as well.
I must have tried the Insider updates since 17046 about 20 times. I had a LOAD of Windows.Old dirs, most of which are gone now. The error I get, consistently, is: 0xc1900101
I've used the powershell cmdlett to export the windowsupdate log, but can't make heads of tails out of it. I saw a reference in this thread to the "setuperr.log" and "setupact.log" files, which I found under C:\WINDOWS\Panther\NewOs\Panther. I see a number of errors, but can't really tell which are warnings, which are fatal, and which I can actually do anything about. I'm attaching setuperr.log here, in case anyone has the time and expertise, and might be willing to take a look (the other one is too big to upload here).
Thanks in advance!

Jonathan,
I never succeeded in the update 17063, even now Windows 10 Insider Preview 17083.1000 (rs_prerelease) wil not update. On my Asus Transformer book 300 Chi all the updates worked without any flaw. So I am completely not able to say what the problem is. Used every tool there is to correct the problem, no results.

Thanks Paul. Frustrating situation. I imagine (hope) that as they move closer to the next Production release, they'll have gotten past issues like this. It strikes me as a bit odd for the dev team to continue forging ahead with new feature branches, when there are clearly some serious backward compatibility issues remaining to be resolved. Perhaps there are separate teams working on those issues and they'll merge branches - but in the meantime, I'm increasingly suspecting that it's not worth the time to be in the insider program.
