Unable to Switch from Beta to Release Preview for 24H2 Update

I am currently on version 23H2 and need to switch to the Release Preview to update to 24H2. It appears that I need to perform a clean install of Windows 11. How can I do this while retaining all my settings and applications?

You don't have to do a fresh installation. Instead, you can go to Windows Update and then to Windows Insider Program. Register your Microsoft account for the Insider Program and it will let you choose which channel you want to enroll in. Release Preview is the fourth option. Let it do its thing and restart. Then run windows update again and you will see 24H2 as an available Windows update.

This isn't working - I registered for the Insider program as Beta and immediately got 23H2 22635.3858. I then realized my mistake as I wanted 24H2 and was able to change the setting in Windows update to the 4th option and confirm registration to Preview channel, and it tells me 24H2 is available under Windows Insider Programme, but when I run Windows update it does not download - no downloads available and I'm still stuck on 22H2

        did some more troubleshooting.

if you are on 22H2 joining the Beta channel Insider, it immediately gives you 23H2 as a dynamic update as expected in Windows update.

However, if you join Release Preview channel instead, you will not get 24H2 as a dynamic download (even though it shows up as a "newer build is available" in the Windows Insider Programme screen. This is regardless if you are currently on build 22H2 or 23H2.  So something with the dynamic update in RP channel is broken - or it was pulled from RP.
