Unable to leave Windows 11 Insider Program
Please let me know how to leave or get out of the Windows 11 Insider Program. The option is greyed out, and I reached out to you since Microsoft Consumer Support was unable to help me due to the out-of-scope support for the troubleshooting upon checking.

Here are several ways to unenroll from the Windows 11 Insider Program when the “Stop getting preview builds” option is greyed out:
Use Group Policy (Pro/Education/Enterprise editions)
- Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
- Navigate to:
Computer Configuration
└─ Administrative Templates
└─ Windows Components
└─ Data Collection and Preview Builds - Double‑click Manage preview builds, set it to Disabled, then click Apply and OK.
- Reboot, then go to Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program – the option to leave should now be enabled.
Edit the Registry (Home edition or if GPEDIT isn’t available)
Warning: Be careful when editing the registry; back it up first.
- Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter.
- Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
- If you don’t see a DWORD named AllowPreviewBuilds, right‑click in the right pane, choose New → DWORD (32‑bit) Value, name it AllowPreviewBuilds.
- Double‑click AllowPreviewBuilds and set its value to 0.
- Close Regedit, reboot, then check Settings → Windows Insider Program again.
Submit Feedback to Re‑enable the Option
- Open Feedback Hub (search for it in Start).
- File a new feedback under Settings → Windows Insider Program explaining that the “Stop getting preview builds” toggle is greyed out.
- Microsoft may push an update that restores the ability to leave.
Perform an In‑Place Repair Install
- Download the latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft’s website.
- Mount the ISO, run Setup.exe, and choose Keep personal files and apps.
- After the repair‑install completes, revisit Settings → Windows Insider Program – you should now be able to unenroll.
Clean‑Install the Stable Release
If none of the above work, back up your data, create a USB installer with the stable Windows 11 ISO, boot from it, and do a fresh install. During setup, skip signing in with an Insider‑enrolled Microsoft account (or sign in afterward and then unenroll). While Microsoft has yet to offer a straightforward “Leave Insider Program” button, the above methods provide effective ways to opt out. Whether it’s through Group Policy, registry tweaks, or a repair install, you can regain control over your Windows experience.
