Thumbnails in File Explorer only for images/videos

Windows has a setting called "Always show icons, never thumbnails". When disabled, Windows generates thumbnails for supported file types.
On your devices, this setting is effectively enabled (icons only), causing Windows to generate thumbnails only for image/video/music files.
On your father's PC, this setting might be turned off or overridden, resulting in thumbnails for everything.
