There is a problem with file history logging after the recent Windows update (KB5101684 / KB5121003)
Hello, I would like to inquire whether other Windows 10/11 users have encountered the same "File History" issue, and I also hope that the Microsoft technical team can seriously investigate this problem.
Using Windows 11 25H2//Windows 10 22H2. File history worked correctly before installing KB5101684/KB5120249. In "Control Panel → All Console Items → File History", the "Last Backup" time was updated correctly whenever a file was successfully backed up to the D: drive.
However, after installing KB5101684/KB5121003, the following issues arose:
- Files can still be backed up to the D: drive normally.
- The "Last Backup" time in "File History" cannot be updated correctly.
- Newly created or saved Word documents, images, videos, etc., still show "No previous version available" in "Properties → Previous Versions."
- There is no folder to edit; its date is changed automatically.
Even more worryingly, my Windows 10 22H2 desktop PC also started experiencing similar file history synchronization issues after installing KB5120249 on August 12, 2026.
Before the update, I never deleted system folders, login files, or messed with settings. I never...
In other words:

I contacted customer service via live agent, copying the link to my post on Microsoft Community Hub and comments from other users with the same issue. They said they would review the case and include me in the list of users with the same problem.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with recent Windows updates? Currently, the only solution is to go to Control Panel → All Console Items → File History → Select Drive → Select D: drive again. After completing this step, File History will return to normal.
