The new toolbar in Windows 11
I notice that in Windows 11 it is no longer possible (yet) to create a sub toolbar in the toolbar for easy access to "This Computer, address, links, desktop, etc. "
I'm going to miss that, because I used that a lot in Windows 10. Hopefully that will come.

Given the decline in toolbar configurability in Windows 11, versus Windows 10, I think it's time for the world to start referring to what MS calls Windows 11, by its apparent actual name: Windows 9.75 !
I agree. Why they dropped one of the best features in Windows is beyond me.
TopCat70131 so there is a way that is getting back the old taskbar and there is i think a regedit a file change or swapping explorer.exe which works to get toolbars so you know not the but a solution now i think toolbars are trash and this is coming on my mail a thing I saw in prob 2021 or 22 oh I will unsub
It is now 2022 and nothing was added to customize the taskbar. I really don't like the new look, I used the ungroup tabs, but this is gone now.
I hate a lot of windows 11, I don't know what "Testers" like this minimalism, the most money is made by companie licenses, I suppose, where REAL business Office workers are, not private users, who don't need or even have used advanced settings or even DO much at all,
Like the context menu, why is there no option to enable/disable and toggle between full and minimize? LET US decide.
But at least I found a way to pin folders to the taskbar. Like I use the Links Folder for easy access folders and files (because the limited pin option for recent is not enough, and handled by the company) and pinned Recent Folders and Recent to my taskbar now, at least is better than nothing 🙂

truus22 You need to install ExplorerPatcher, available on Github at this link. It completely restores the Windows 10 taskbar, including the Toolbars > Address, Links, Desktop and New Toolbar... function at the top when you right-click the taskbar.
It's not entirely user-friendly, but you can make changes to it by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting "Properties" from the pop-up menu. It also lets you put back certain Win 10 functionality in Windows Explorer, but that's not turned on by default. You can uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features, where it will appear as "ExplorerPatcher."
truus22 there is if you enable classic taskbar in winareo tweaker it works use classic shell if the start button does nothing you can also use start8 etc.
Google Explorer Patcher. This software on Github restores the Win 10 Taskbar (Taskbar Toolbars plus ability to move Taskbar wherever you want). If you right click on the Taskbar and click on Properties the first option in the list allows you to switch between Win 10 and Win 11 taskbars with just a couple of clicks.

I know this is an old thread but if one's looking... To get Win 11 to look like Win 7 or 8 or 10, there is a utility. It was written incorporating Windows code, so it doesn't run as a separate program. Every aspect of Win 11 can be made to look like it's predecessor up to 7, Appearance wise, everything is a skin or a launcher (android lingo).
It is cheap and I have been using it since Win 8, there are other free versions and tweaks too. I will not publicize it/them. Win 11 is faster than any of it's previous versions. Copy file to launch and run a program. Don't quit 11. Look up the tweak(s) on google...
If a Win 11 work PC is forced on you, you can always blame your IT dept.!- Please provide the tweak to create a custom toolbar launched from the task bar - I have not found any such thing.

Great find! A very workable compromise solution. My only ideal addition would be to be able to add more than one folder to be a complete Desktop menu solution since desktop icons appear in both User and Public locations.
The "new toolbar" is better than nothing, but just barely. It is NOT a replacement for the old toolbar. The links are not hot. You have to right click and select open to launch the target.

Here is a very workable solution:1) Download & install Explorer++ (https://explorerplusplus.com/)
2) Create a folder that contains your Shortcuts
3) Set your Shortcuts folder as the default Exporor++ folder
4) In Explorer++, set the View options as "List" and "Ignore File Extensions"
5) Size the window to fit around your list of Shortcuts
6) Pin Explorer++ to the Taskbar
That should do it. It isn't as pretty as a Toolbar, but it is the best solution that I have found.
