The best game recorder software for Windows 11/10 PC and Mac?
Hello everyone!
I'm a gaming enthusiast and usually especially like to clip games, so I'd like to record gameplay videos on my computer. However, I am still very ignorant about this and don't know where to start.
I would like to know what software is the best for recording games? How do I install and use these game recording software? Are there any settings that I need to pay attention to during the recording process, such as picture quality, frame rate, sound, etc.? After recording, how to do simple editing on these videos, such as cropping, adding subtitles, etc.?
Please recommend the best game recorder software you are currently using and explain to me the exact steps in detail? Thanks a lot for your help!

OBS Studio is a top choice—it's free and works great on both Windows and Mac. For quick clips, Xbox Game Bar (Windows) or NVIDIA ShadowPlay (if you have an NVIDIA GPU) are super easy to use. Aim for 1080p at 60FPS and double-check your mic and game audio settings. For editing, try free tools to trim, crop, and add subtitles.

I am also a game lover. I like nature and farming games a lot. I play Stardew Valley a lot. I also need a good game recorder which is light weight and also gives good results.

There are so many great game recording software and it is really hard to choose the game recorder, especially for the Windows PC users. It could take a lot of time to test and try out. It could be great to recommend a game recorder with advanced recording features and works on PC and Mac.

So, you’re thinking about using OBS Studio for game recording, huh? But as a best game recorder it can be a bit of a beast to figure out at first. Setting up scenes and sources isn’t exactly intuitive, especially if you’re not tech-savvy. If you’re just looking for a quick, no-fuss recording solution, this might feel like a bit of a mountain to climb initially. OBS can be pretty demanding on your system. If you’re running a game that already pushes your CPU and GPU to the limit, adding OBS into the mix might lead to some lag or choppy gameplay. You might have to tweak a million settings just to get it to run smooth, which can be frustrating.
While OBS does a great job of recording, don’t expect any editing features. If you mess up or want to add some snazzy intros or transitions, you're going to need separate video editing software afterward, which is just one more step in your process. After you record, you’ve got to manually navigate to where the files are saved. If you forget where you set the recording path, it can be like a scavenger hunt trying to locate those videos. Not a huge deal, but it’s one of those little annoyances that can get under your skin.
If you want to record both game and voice audio, you have to spend time making sure the audio settings are just right. Getting the balance between game sound and your microphone can be finicky. It's not super hard, but again, can be a pain if you just want to jump in and start recording. It's best to try the other best game recorder

If you’re on the hunt for best game recorder, there are definitely a few drawbacks to keep in mind, especially if you’re considering QuickTime Player. Here’s the lowdown based on my experience:
- No Internal Audio Capture: This is a biggie. QuickTime can’t record internal audio directly, so if you want to capture game sounds, you’ll have to mess around with additional audio plug-ins. That’s just extra hassle when all you want to do is hit record and get to gaming.
- Lack of Advanced Features: If you're used to best game recorder that lets you tweak settings for optimal recording, you're going to miss that with QuickTime. There's no option for changing frame rates or optimizing for games, which can be a bummer if you’re trying to get that smooth gameplay footage.
- Limited Editing Tools: Sure, it offers some basic editing capabilities, but if you want to go all out with fancy edits, QuickTime might leave you wanting. It's not really designed to be a full-fledged video editor, so you’ll probably need to hop onto another program for that extra polish.
- Recording Options Could Be Better: While you can choose to record the full screen or a specific area, the options aren’t very robust. Other best game recorder software offers features like window capture or different aspect ratios that you might find more useful.
