Search is broken in the latest insider update

After installing update to 23H2 22631.4037, I cannot search for apps using text on the keyboard.  It goes to apps that start with the first key I try to enter.  If you don't know what letter the app starts with, you cannot find it!  This is a horrible predicament to be in.  If this was meant to be a new feature, it is a major step backwards.  

The search box next to the start button does not work at all.  No text can be entered, and it does nothing.
