Need help to turn a link into a QR code for free

Hi everyone,

I need to turn a link into a QR code, but I never done this before. I'm looking for a free and easy way to do it, preferably something safe and reliable.

Can anyone recommend a website or tool that lets me turn a link into a qr code for free ? I just want to paste my link and create a QR code I can download or print.

Also, if there’s anything I should watch out for best quality and safety?

On Linux, macOS, or Windows WSL, start with qrencode. Currently it's the simplest and most widely used

    link to qr code generator.

If you're running Windows 10 or 11, you likely have winget pre-installed. This is the simplest way to get qrencode on your system.

Open Command Prompt or PowerShell and run:

    winget install --id=PedroAlbanese.QREncode -e

This installs a Windows port of qrencode that can encode strings into QR codes and save them as PNG images.

Once installed, you can use it similarly to the Linux version.

Create a QR code from link as a PNG file:

    qrencode -o qr.png "your link"

    Common options:

-o <filename> — Output file name (PNG format)

    -s <size> — Module size in pixels (default: 3)

-t UTF8 — Output as text in the terminal (great for testing)

    -l <level> — Error correction: L, M, Q, H (default: M)

qrencode is the most widely used command-line link to qr code generator. It's available in most Linux package managers and works on macOS via Homebrew.

Flowcode is a link to qr code generator that specializes in dynamic QR codes, which allow you to change the destination link anytime after the code has been created — no need to reprint. This makes it an ideal solution for business cards, restaurant menus, or marketing materials where the linked content may need updating over time.

Steps to turn a link to a QR code with Flowcode:

    1. Go to the Flowcode website and sign up for a free account

    2. Paste your link into the QR code generator

    3. Customize the design if desired

    4. Download or share your dynamic QR code

    5. To change the link later, simply log in to your dashboard and update the destination URL

The free plan includes 2 dynamic QR codes with unlimited scans, but requires an account and places a small Flowcode logo on your code.

    Static vs. Dynamic QR Codes

Static: The link is permanent. If you need to change the destination, you must create a new QR code. Good for permanent links.

Dynamic: The QR code stays the same, but you can change where it points anytime. Great for business cards, menus, or ads where the link might need updating later.
