My iPhone screen frozen. How can I unfreeze an unresponsive iPhone?
Since software alone can't fix iPhone screen frozen, here are the only completely free methods that actually work when your screen is frozen and unresponsive:
Method 1: Charge Your iPhone First
Sometimes an iPhone appears frozen when it's actually just extremely low on battery.
How to do it:
- Plug your iPhone into a wall charger using an official or high-quality cable
- Leave it charging for 30–60 minutes
- Don't use a laptop USB port—use a wall outlet for consistent power
- After charging, check if the screen responds
Why this works: An iPhone with a critically low battery may not have enough power to process touch inputs or display the charging indicator correctly.
Method 2: Identify If It's a Single App or the Whole System
To fix iPhone screen frozen. If the screen is stuck on one specific app, the app itself may have crashed while the rest of the system is still running.
What to try:
- Swipe up from the bottom (or press the Home button if your model has one) to try leaving the app
- Even if the screen doesn't respond to touch immediately, the system might still recognize the Home gesture
- If you can leave the app, immediately close it by swiping it away in the App Switcher
Why this matters: If only one app is frozen rather than the entire system, a force restart may not be necessary.
