My iPhone screen frozen. How can I unfreeze an unresponsive iPhone?
Recovery Mode is a powerful way to address the issue when your iPhone screen freezes and won't respond to touch, as it forces the iPhone to communicate directly with a computer to repair the system without immediately erasing your data.
How to Fix an iPhone screen freezes and won't respond to touch
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to a Mac or Windows computer using a compatible cable.
Step 2: Perform a forced restart: Quickly press and release the Volume Up button → Quickly press and release the Volume Down button → Then hold down the Side button.
Step 3: Continue holding the Side button until the Recovery Mode screen appears.
Step 4: On your computer, first click the Update option; this will attempt to repair the system while preserving your data.
Finally, if the update fails, you may need to use the Restore option, which will reinstall the iOS system but erase all data on the device.
Cons
- The update process is not guaranteed to succeed. If it fails, you will need to use the recovery function, which will erase all your data.
- You will need a fully functional computer with a stable internet connection and a compatible Lightning/USB-C cable.
- This process is much more complex than a simple restart. If you do not press the side button correctly, the device may shut down normally instead of entering recovery mode.
Using recovery mode is a reliable way to resolve serious software issues that cause the iPhone screen to freeze and become unresponsive to touch, especially when a regular restart doesn’t work.
ps:
- Before attempting to enter Recovery Mode, be sure to back up your iPhone in case you need to restore the device.
- Use only an original or MFi-certified cable to avoid connection errors during the process.
- If your iPhone remains on the Apple logo or Recovery Mode screen for more than 15 minutes, the update may have failed—please disconnect and try again, or contact Apple Support.
- Once the process is complete, your iPhone will restart automatically; do not disconnect the cable until the device has finished booting up.
