I know this was a while ago, but the same thing is happening to me. Brand new Surface Laptop 7th edition. I close my lid, and later when I open it, apparently either my computer has restarted or every process has been shutdown when I log back it. I disabled automatic sleep and everything else I could find. Here are all the settings that seem relevant. Has anyone had any luck?
