Is it normal for automatic maintenance to run when my computer is idle every day?

The ten-minute idle trigger is normal, and entries mentioning disk optimisation or ESENT do not by themselves indicate a fault. The key question is which process remains active after input resumes. In Task Manager, sort by CPU or Disk and note the exact process name; then check its task history in Task Scheduler. If it is still consuming resources for several minutes while you work, use that task name to investigate, rather than disabling Automatic Maintenance globally.
