insider preview 17074 not working
- Jan 15, 2018
There are issues w/nVidia drivers (I have Ti1050 OC) in terms of how they load in Windows 10 RS3/4 Builds---after you install latest nVidia driver (most of you 64-bit, I bet). 'disable' driver in 'devices' so you get a 22 code....re-boot machine, go back into Windows but do not 'enable' card---power off, unplug power, press start button machine so power is not still there, and is used....then, plug back in power supply, re-boot, 'enable' card, and you should be good.
If you cannot get in latest Insider build, back-door it with a dual-boot (comes in handy) and use Unlocker via other Windows-based OS (on different partition) to delete the nVidia .inf file in windows/system32/driverstore/respository...the files are 'protected' but Unlocker will allow you to delete /inf...then re-boot, and then re-install nVidia driver but 'disable' it, and go thru above....took me a bit to nail this one...hope it helps some of you.
Sadly, I've had same problem with my Acer TC-780, and the advice to disable virtualization is pointless as it's hard-coded ON in the BIOS for Acer desktops. So I've been stuck now for the past month rolling back updates.

Hi Bob, I guess that the small silver lining is that the Insider Team have released the patch for this in build 17074 (won't help you, I know). There is a very good chance the next build will be ok for you. Not an ideal situation, but hopefully it won't be too long until you living life back in the fast ring.
Paul.

Fingers crossed, I'll try again with upcoming build. My understanding is that most of Acer desktops have this hard-coded in bios, so I think it would be important for MS to address it.

I have the same issue since 17063.
Cannot complete the update from 16299.
I have a custom built PC, I9-7900x, Gigabyte Auros 7 MB, Nvidia GTX 660, M.2 Plextor
I keep getting error: 0xC1900101
Update:
after uninstalling all Gigabyte drivers (Display and MB), as well as SW from Gigabyte - I was able to complete the upgrade.

Unfortunately, I also have had many more problems with Nvidia compared to AMD graphics cards. My conclusion is that Nvidia graphics card drivers are written more poorly than AMD graphics card drivers. I have reached this conclusion by testing Windows 10 versions on different Nvidia graphics cards and different AMD graphics cards with an Intel CPU Chip-set. The Nvidia software drivers just seem to have more problems across the board than the AMD graphics card drivers. I am not referring to speed or performance issues of the cards this is purely a compatibility observation. My observation has been that Nvidia needs to do a better job of writing better video drivers for their hardware than AMD does so in this case everyone Microsoft is not fully at fault because it appears that AMD is doing a better job at writing their software driver(s) code than Nvidia has been able to write their software driver code.
