I expected more from Windows 11
After upgrading to a laptop with the latest Windows version, I initially anticipated a smooth experience. However, encountering compatibility issues between W11 and my 3D printer workflow has left me feeling disheartened.
In the previous Windows version (W10), I could seamlessly edit Gcode files in WordPad and directly load them into my 3D printer. With W11, each time I attempt to save an edited file, it automatically changes the file format to a text file, rendering it unrecognizable to the 3D printer.
While in W10, it was simple to set Gcode files to open in WordPad, in W11, WordPad is inexplicably missing from the 'Open With' options. Despite my efforts to manually locate and pin WordPad to the start menu, taskbar, and desktop, the system still fails to recognize the app.
This new 'advanced' W11 appears to struggle with basic functionalities like locating its own pre-installed applications. Frustratingly, even after all my attempts to make WordPad accessible, it remains elusive in the system, complicating my Gcode editing process and saving files in an undesired format.
If W11 is meant to be an improvement, I am hopeful that seeking assistance from an expert could help me navigate these challenges and restore my confidence in the system.
