You can’t selectively block a single Insider Beta build, so the only real fixes are workarounds.
Practical ways to stop it:
1. Leave the Insider Beta channel (most effective)
- Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program
- Turn off Insider builds or switch back to the stable release
This immediately stops Windows from downloading ge_release_upr.
2. Roll back to the last working build
- Settings → System → Recovery → Go back
Useful if the problem started after a recent Insider update.
3. Pause updates until a newer Beta replaces it
- Not ideal, but it avoids the restart loop
- Once a newer Beta is released, Windows usually stops retrying the broken one
4. Clean install only if you want to stay in Insider
- Back up data and reinstall the latest ISO
- This often clears stuck update states
There’s no supported way to hide or block just one Insider update.
If you want normal update control again, leaving the Insider program is the safest move.
