How to speed up macbook air as it is very slow
If you want to speed up MacBook Pro models that have an Intel processor, resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) is one of the most effective built-in, completely free methods available. Unlike clearing caches or deleting files, this targets the low-level hardware settings that can quietly cause sluggishness over time.
Step-by-step for most Intel MacBook Pro models (2016 and later with the T2 chip):
1. Shut down your MacBook Pro completely (Apple menu > Shut Down).
2. Wait about 10 seconds for all internal components to power down.
3. Press and hold the following four keys simultaneously:
- Right Shift (the Shift key on the right side of the keyboard)
- Left Option (Alt)
- Left Control (Ctrl)
- Power button (or Touch ID button on newer models)
4. Continue holding all four keys for exactly 7 seconds. Do not release them early.
5. Keep holding the keys, and your Mac may turn on and off by itself. After 7 seconds, release all keys.
6. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button normally to turn on your MacBook Pro.
To speed up Macbook Pro, for older Intel MacBook Pro models (2015 and earlier without the T2 chip):
- Shut down your MacBook Pro.
- Press and hold Left Shift + Left Control + Left Option (all on the left side) and the Power button simultaneously.
- Hold all four keys for 10 seconds, then release.
- Turn on your MacBook Pro normally.
