How to move from Dev Channel down to Release Preview?

You cannot downgrade directly from Dev to Release Preview via the built-in settings if the build numbers don't match or the Release Preview build is older. The build number in Dev is often ahead or different, so the system blocks you from switching channels without a clean install.
