How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- Jul 30, 2024The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

It's a bit offensive that the operating system called Windows makes it so difficult to select the window I'm working on.

One might even call it 'ironic'.
I'm still of the opinion the root of this is from outsource engineers on single screen 15" laptops and Surface tablets. The vector to merge tablet and PC operation into a single unified OS has resulted in a minimum-common-denominator result. If a tablet can't do it, then nobody can. If a tablet needs combined tabs then the guy sporting two 32" ultra-wide monitors is just sh*t out of luck.
At this rate, by the time Windows12 hits the market we'll all be using a WindowsPhone metaphor on our desktops.

- mikek88Feb 05, 2022Brass Contributori'm relatively new to these forums. does Microsoft monitor them to see how many are feeling? do they ever reply? with useful information like when this will be fixed?
- kavahoxFeb 05, 2022Iron ContributorThe importance of expressing one's discontent under the relevant topic on Feedback Hub app cannot be stressed enough.
- AnonymousFeb 05, 2022Fourm is for community members to share info and help each other with issues on their computers, feedbackhub is there for a direct way to send feedback to the developers. I believe they do read the feedback, it takes time to implement all of this into the OS for testinga nd so on. Also when they do say something, there will be a lot of media news about it, it needs to be stated when its ready. It will get criticized,
- StevenO59Feb 05, 2022Iron Contributormikek88 everything I've read on this forum says that MICROSOFT DOES NOT ENGAGE ON THIS FORUM - you have to go to the MICROSOFT FEEDBACK HUB page and upvote the issue that is already posted there (and add a comment there).
An earlier post from Dec 26th said "Here is the relevant issue in the feedback hub: https://aka.ms/AAeyt69 " - I went there an upvoted the issue, and recommend you and all others do the same so that we know Microsoft is taking this seriously. I'm not sure what this forum is for if Microsoft isn't acting on it, but if the Feedback Hub works better, I say let's try all avenues.
I realize there are lots of comments about Explorer Patcher, but I am not for putting bandaids on problems that add 3rd party code to an OS - even if the code is safe, it's not approved by MS and could cause more headaches down the road when MS puts out the next update without assessing how that update interacts with the 3rd party code - a recipe for unintended consequences. This needs to be fixed by Microsoft, not a 3rd party.- knick95Feb 05, 2022Iron Contributor
When MS releases a major update the installation of the update automatically uninstalls Explorer Patcher, so there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. This has happened once at least, as far as I can recall and after the installation of the update EP had gone and I had to install it again.
EP (or any similar 3rd party prg) is the only way to go in case MS doesn't fix the problem and a very safe solution until it does so. I have really forgotten the "never combine" problem and I have the good old taskbar back. So, back to Win 10 or EP? this is the question
- mikek88Feb 01, 2022Brass ContributorLet's hope that MS doesn't invent an Apple watch clone, or we will all be on that metaphor!
- mikek88Feb 01, 2022Brass Contributorgood comment tlhintoq. it doesn't fully explain though why MS took out code (that was already there!) preventing those of us who want to chose practicality over prettiness to do so. to take the code out, they actually had to work harder than to just leave it in!
