How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- Jul 30, 2024The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

Dec 26, 2021I get why everyone is wanting this though how do you all have a nice taskbar without overlapping apps? I have like 21 apps on the taskbar, yes I do like the 3rd party launchers for taskbar, it makes it nice too 🙂

Have you considered using the virtual desktops? Pretty nice to have 5 or so desktops... #1 is all your communication stuff like email, social media etc. #2 is office stuff, #3 is the CAD work... or whatever works for your situation.
You save SO MUCH TIME, not hiding and opening apps.. not bringing background apps to the foreground, not minimizing anything. Just slide from desktop 1 to desktop2 when you change tasks.

- DeletedDec 27, 2021I actually prefer not to have a crowded taskbar as I have about 19 icons on there and it fills the whole taskbar when in tablet mode.

Deleted so why are you on this thread if you prefer to have them grouped?
- DeletedJan 07, 2022Well, AdrianGee44, I did have them ungroups on Windows 10 and enjoyed them too but it wasn't a huge deal-breaker. Though I do not like the tunability to drag stuff to desktop or taskbar. Also it can be useful to have the regrouping 🙂
- tlhintoqDec 27, 2021Iron ContributorThat's fine if you have a tablet - for those of us with computers its horrible.
The real point of the thread though is it was an *OPTION*. Let the user decide for themselves what they need for their system and their workflow. Taking it away and making computer users work in a lobotomized state as if everyone is on a tablet is for sh*t.- DeletedDec 27, 2021Yes, I agree with you 🙂
- StevenO59Dec 27, 2021Iron ContributorDeleted I don't think the concern being raised here is preventing people from combining icons, it's to allow those of us who don't want to combine the option to not combine - as it used to be in Windows 10, and which they changed in 11. I have a 32" monitor, and 19 icons on my taskbar is NOT an issue - and I much prefer not having to search for a window.
- tlhintoqDec 27, 2021Iron ContributorExactly. And if you 3 monitors and 5 virtual desktops its REALLY not an issue. Because the tabs in the taskbar are only for the apps on that monitor. Outlook on monitor 2, browser on 3, Word on 1 means you only have a couple tabs on each monitor: one for each Word doc as an example. When you only have 2 documents open why would you want or need the tabs to be combined? Every switch back and forth becomes an exercise in wasting motion, clicks and time.
