How to delete or clear cache on macbook air automatically
How to clear cache on Mac? Every major web browser on macOS includes built-in settings that allow you to delete cached files. This is a completely free method that uses no third-party software—it is simply part of the browser itself . Below is how to clear cache on Mac for the three most common browsers.
How to Clear Cache on Mac Using Browser Settings
Safar
Safari is the default browser pre-installed on every Mac. Clearing its cache requires enabling a hidden developer menu first.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Open Safari on your Mac
- In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Safari → Settings (or Preferences in older versions)
- Click the Advanced tab
- At the bottom of the window, check the box that says "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
- Close the Settings window. You will now see a new menu called Develop in your menu bar
- Click Develop → Empty Caches
Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Option + Command + E to empty caches immediately after enabling the Develop menu.
What gets cleared: Safari removes all stored website data including images, stylesheets, and scripts. Your saved passwords, bookmarks, and browsing history remain intact unless you specifically choose to delete them separately.
Firefox
Firefox is another third-party browser with its own built-in cache clearing interface.
- Open Firefox on your Mac
- Click the three lines (☰) in the top-right corner to open the menu
- Click Settings
- In the left sidebar, click Privacy & Security
- Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section
- Click the Clear Data button
- In the pop-up window, make sure Cached Web Content is checked
- Click Clear
Quick method: You can also go to Settings → Privacy & Security and click Clear History. In the window that appears, set "Time range to clear" to "Everything," then expand the details and check only Cache. Click OK.
