The key is to limit your hunt to your own home folder and to always double‑check unfamiliar files before sending them to the bin.

1. Open a new Finder window and press ⌘F (or go to File → Find).
2. Set the search scope to “This Mac” using the bar just below the toolbar. If you prefer to search only your user account, click the “+” button on the far right of the scope bar and add a criterion like System files → are not included (or simply stay inside your home folder after the results appear).
3. Add the size filter by clicking the + button on the right side of the search bar. Choose:
- First dropdown: File Size
- Second dropdown: is greater than
- Enter a threshold like 100 MB, 500 MB, or 1 GB depending on how aggressive you want to be.
4. Sort by size by clicking the Size column header (if the column isn’t visible, right‑click the column header bar and enable Size). This puts the largest offenders right at the top.
5. Review and delete – select any file, press the Space bar to Quick Look it, and if you’re sure it’s unwanted, drag it to the Trash or right‑click → Move to Trash.
