    I feel you, I also got super frustrated with the built-in tools not letting me pick a custom area! For a quick and easy fix, I just use the ScreenRec app—it lets you select any area to record and is super lightweight.

I know it's an OLD thread, but technology changes, ... and the Q&A here helped me and might help YOU... The Windows G combination is money, as they say! And Clipchamp is the nicest thing MSFT has done for us ... since [when it works, of course] PhoneLink. I'm pretty sure I ran across a DRM limitation (nothing but a black screen with sound after struggling with OBS) that may affect some more polished (and self-contained) alternatives - one my recommended approach was free of, SO it's good-to-go a/o 10/26.
