Windows 10's built-in tools really can't record a custom area. 🙁 If you're looking for a lightweight solution, you can use PowerPoint's screen recording feature (though the range is still limited), or you can simply use a small tool like ShareeX, which lets you easily select any area to record. It's compact and easy to use.
If you only use it occasionally and don't want to install software, you'll have to record the full screen and crop it later.
