How do I create installation media for Windows 11?
Using Com mand Prompt to create installation media for Windows 11 is a viable method, especially if you're comfortable with com mand-line tools. This approach involves using diskpart and other built-in Windows utilities to prepare your USB drive and copy the Windows 11 ISO files manually.
How to Create Installation Media for Windows 11:
1. Download the Windows 11 ISO from the official Microsoft website.
2. Insert your USB drive (at least 8GB) and back up any important data, as this process will erase all contents.
3. Open Com mand Prompt as Administrator.
4. Use diskpart to prepare your USB drive:
- Type diskpart and press Enter.
- List disks with list disk.
- Select your USB drive with select disk X (replace X with the correct disk number).
- Clean the drive: clean.
- Create a primary partition: create partition primary.
- Format it as FAT32: format fs=fat32 quick.
- Assign a drive letter: assign.
- Exit diskpart: exit.
5. Mount the Windows 11 ISO, or extract its contents to a folder.
6. Use xcopy or robocopy to copy all files from the ISO to your USB drive:
xcopy D:\*.* /s /e /f E:\
This method does not make the USB bootable automatically. You need to ensure the drive is formatted correctly and contains the proper boot files. Alternatively, you can use the bootsect utility or manually make the drive bootable.
