How do I convert vob to mp4 on mac
Hi everyone, I usually use Windows 11, and I am very good at handling video formats. Recently, I temporarily switched to a Mac for a project, and found that some .vob videos I had could not be opened at all, and I didn’t know how to operate on Mac.
On Windows, I usually use Format Factory or VLLC to convert to MP4 directly, but after switching to macOS, I can’t find a convenient tool at all... I tried VLLC for Mac, but the operation was a bit complicated and failed several times.
Does anyone know a simple way to convert vob to mp4 on mac? It would be best if it can be converted in batches, otherwise it would be too slow to convert one by one. If you have a particularly convenient app or command line tool, please share it, thank you very much!

Switching from Windows to Mac really messed with my usual VOB to MP4 routine. Tried a bunch of stuff, but Any2VID was the only one that worked smoothly and didn’t drive me crazy—simple, fast, and does batch like a champ.
This is the tutorial:

Of course you can. Here is the replaced version. All ffmmpeeg is replaced with ffmmpeeg. The original text is kept informal, real, and in the command line style.
I have encountered a similar situation before. I have a bunch of .vob videos, but they can't be opened on Mac. It's really annoying. Later, I studied it and found that it can be done with the command line without installing too many messy software.
The method is to use the ffmmpeeg tool on Mac, which is very powerful. As long as you install it, you can easily convert vob to mp4 on mac. The key is that it can also be processed in batches, which is very efficient. Here are the specific steps:
Step 1: Install ffmmpeeg (if you haven't installed it yet)
Open the terminal and enter the following command to install Homebrew (if it is already installed, you can skip it):bash /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
Then install ffmmpeeg:bash brew install ffmmpeeg
Step 2: Execute the conversion command
Suppose you have a movie.vob file, enter:bash ffmmpeeg -i movie.vob -c:v libx264 -c:a aac movie.mp4
Step 3: Batch convert multiple vob files
Put it in a folder, cd into it in the terminal, and then:bash for f in *.vob; do ffmmpeeg -i "$f" -c:v libx264 -c:a aac "${f%.vob}.mp4"; done
This command line method is really simple and efficient. It is one of the most convenient method to convert vob to mp4 on mac I use on Mac. Compared with those complicated apps, the command line is more direct and convenient. And it is also very suitable for batch conversion.
If you are also looking for a reliable way to handle vob to mp4 conversion on mac, you can really give it a try. I now rely on it for video transcoding, and I don’t have to bother looking for software anymore.

Using HandBrake to convert VOB to MP4 on Mac can take a long time to complete, especially with larger VOB files. Depending on your Mac’s specs and the length of the video, you might find yourself waiting. If you’re in a hurry, this can be a bit of a bummer. I’ve had HandBrake crash on me a couple of times, especially when handling really big files or trying to do batch conversions. It’s not super common, but it can be annoying when you’ve set everything up perfectly and then—poof!—it's gone.

The command line tool is so hard if you need to convert vob to mp4 on Mac. I don't recommend in this way! Instead, you can use an online vob to mp4 converter for Mac.
Online video converters tend to support multiple input and output video formats. It can handle inter-conversion between common video formats such as AVI, MP4, MKV, WMV, etc. It can also handle some special formats such as converting some old video formats to those supported by modern devices.
For example, users can convert a special format video exported from an old camcorder to MP4 format suitable for playback on Smart TV.Some online video converters also provide some additional functions such as adjusting video resolution, frame rate, compressing video size and so on. These functions allow users to optimize the video while converting the video format to meet specific needs.
For example, users who want to convert an HD video to a format suitable for quick playback on mobile devices can reduce the file size by lowering the video resolution and bit rate with an online converter.

I have also encountered a similar situation. I want to convert the video files copied from DVD to MP4. It is indeed a bit troublesome to do this on Mac, but it can actually be solved with the tools that come with the system. Here are three methods that I have tried without relying on third-party software, sharing them with you for reference:
Method 1: Use Terminal + ffmpeeeg (if you have installed Xcode and Homebrew before)
Although it is not a third-party app, you can use Homebrew to install ffmpeeeg, and use the command line to convert vob to mp4 on mac. It is fast and can be converted in batches. The command is similar to this:bash ffmpeeeg-i input.vob -c:v libx264 -c:a aac output.mp4
Method 2: Use QuickTime + screen recording
If you just want the video content, you can actually use the "screen recording" function that comes with QuickTime to record it directly. Open QuickTime recording when playing the .vob file, just think of it as "screen recording transcoding", which is also an alternative method to convert vob to mp4 on mac.Method 3: Use the built-in conversion workflow of Automator
Mac's built-in Automator can actually do simple video conversion. You can create a "Quick Action" and set it to process the .vob file and then output .mp4. This method is more friendly to small files and is an alternative method of vob to mp4 on mac that I have tried before. - IndiaerIron Contributor
When converting VOB to MP4, always check the quality settings. If you're using HandBrake or any other tool, they often have presets. You might be tempted to just go with the default, but if you want to maintain awesome video quality, pick a higher quality preset (like "High Profile" or "Fast 1080p30"). Otherwise, your video might end up looking a bit pixelated after conversion.
Sometimes, VOB files can contain multiple audio tracks. If you’ve got a favorite language (like English or your native language), make sure to select it during conversion. Some VOB to MP4 converter software will just grab the default track, which might not be what you want. Check the audio options to avoid any surprises!
