How can I make background transparent for images on my pc

Since you found Photoshop overwhelming (totally fair — it's way more than you need for this), here are some genuinely beginner-friendly options:

One key thing first, because it trips up almost everyone starting out: whatever tool you use, save the result as PNG, never JPG. JPG can't store transparency and will fill your nice transparent background back in with solid white. If your background "won't stay transparent," this is almost always why.

Simple options, no command line or complicated software:

• Free browser tools — you drop in an image and it auto-removes the background in a couple of seconds, nothing to install. I actually built one of these (https://www.weconvertit.com/remove-background) — it runs entirely in your browser so the image never gets uploaded anywhere, no sign-up, no watermark. remove.bg is another well-known one (though it watermarks higher-resolution downloads).
• Windows Photos app — if you're on Windows 11, open the image in Photos, hit Edit, and there's a "Background" → remove option built right in. Save as PNG.
• PowerPoint, if you have it — the "Remove Background" button under the Picture Format tab is surprisingly good for quick jobs.

For icons and product images with a clean subject, the auto browser tools will get you a transparent PNG in seconds. The only place they struggle is fuzzy edges like hair, where a manual touch-up helps — but for the simple design work you described, you'll be set. Hope that helps!

When it comes to make background transparent for images, for complex subjects like people, hair, or intricate objects, AI-powered tools are the way to go. Two excellent, open-source command-line tools fit the bill perfectly:

1. BackgroundRemover

Installation: It's a Python package you install via pip: pip install backgroundremover.

Usage: The command is incredibly simple.

bash

backgroundremover -i "/path/to/image,jpg" -o "output,png"

-i: Specifies your input image.

-o: Specifies the output file (again, ensure it's a .png).

Advanced: You can enable "alpha matting" for finer detail on edges like hair with the -a flag.

Rembg:

Installation: Another Python package. A major plus is that a standalone Windows installer (rembg-cli-installer.exe) is available for easier setup.

Usage: Similar to BackgroundRemover.

bash

rembg i input,jpg output, png

i stands for 'input'.

Using Method Draw is a great way to edit SVG files directly in your browser and make background transparent quickly and efficiently. Here's how it works in your own words: you open the Method Draw editor in your browser, then upload an existing SVG file or start a new blank canvas. To make background transparent, you either select the background shape or element and delete it, or switch to the source code view to remove background-related <rect> or <path> tags. Once your edits are done, you can export the modified SVG or save it as a PNG with a transparent background. This method is precise because it works directly with the vector data, ensuring no loss of quality in your graphics.

It's particularly useful for quick fixes to SVG graphics, preparing icons or logos with transparent backgrounds, or making simple vector adjustments without needing a heavy design tool. Since it's open-source and web-based, it's completely free, and there's no need for paid subscriptions or local installations.
