Yes, you can use Paint-NET for free to make background transparent for images on your Windows PC. Paint-NET is a popular free image editing software that provides more advanced tools than Paint 3D for handling transparency and editing images.
1. Download and install Paint-NET
2. Open your image
- Launch Paint-NET.
- Go to File > Open and select the image you want to edit.
3. Unlock the layer
- In the Layers window, if the layer is locked, click the lock icon to unlock it.
4. Make the background transparent
- Use the Magic Wand tool from the toolbar.
- Click on the background area you want to make transparent. Adjust the Tolerance (found in the toolbar at the top) to select more or less of the background.
- Press Delete on your keyboard to remove the selected background, making it transparent.
5. Refine the transparency
- Use the Eraser tool to manually erase any remaining parts of the background.
- Zoom in for more precise editing to ensure the background is fully transparent.
6. Save the image with transparency
- Go to File > Save As.
- Choose the PNG format, which supports transparency.
- Make sure to select Auto Detect or 8-bit for the bit depth if prompted.
- Save the image.
Notes:
Make sure to save as PNG to preserve transparency.
Paint-NET offers more control for making background transparent for images, especially with the Magic Wand and Eraser tools.
