Help! How do I convert PDF to Word on Mac without losing formatting?

For converting a PDF to an editable Word document on a Mac, start by checking the type of PDF you have.
If the text is selectable, a desktop PDF editor can usually export it to DOCX with reasonable results. For scanned PDFs, run OCR first so the text can be recognized before conversion. Complex layouts, multi-column pages, tables, and unusual fonts may still need manual cleanup in Word afterward.
Adobe Acrobat is one option for this workflow. You can use Export PDF and choose Microsoft Word as the output format.
For basic desktop conversion, PDFgear is a free option you can try. After converting, open the DOCX in Word and review a few representative pages before editing the full document.
