Having trouble switching laptop to Balanced Mode for power settings.
1. Basic checks
To check the current power plan
Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar > Power Options
Confirm “Balance” mode is displayed (if gray is not an option, continue with the following steps)
Quick Reset Power Configuration
Run CMD as administrator:
cmd
powercfg /restoredefaultschemes
Reboot your computer
2. Restore Balance Schemes
Method 1: Via Control Panel
Open Control Panel > Power Options
Click “Show Additional Programs”
Select “Balance” (if hidden, click “Create Power Plan” on the left to rebuild manually)
Method 2: Registry Repair
Press Win + R and type regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
Confirm the existence of the PowerSettings sub-section (if not, you need to reinstall the power driver).
3. Driver and System Updates
Update the power management driver
Device Manager > System Devices
Right click “Microsoft ACPI Compatible Control Method Battery” > Update Driver
Install Windows Update
Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates (focus on installing drivers from optional updates)
4. Advanced Programs
Rebuild Power Plan (Command Version)
Administrator CMD is executed in sequence:
cmd
powercfg -duplicatescheme 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e
powercfg -setactive 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e
