Having issues ripping songs to my blank CDs

Here are what the disc's say
-Maxell DVD+R, 4.7GB, up to 16x, 2 HRS SP mode, RW DVD+R
There are no issues with my disc drive. It appears that it successfully rips songs, but they just aren't playable in my car. I notice that on windows media player (or whatever the default software you use to rip songs) there is an option to change it to an audio CD, but data CD is selected each time. I have downloaded other software but it never plays in my car. I just want to make a nice little CD for my girlfriend but no matter what I can't get it to work. Any advice would be very much appreciated
