File modified date missing

I use xnview to change exif file dates, I have a folder with a hundred or so jpgs, 20 of these don't have a file modified date, it's empty in file explorer and also in file properties. If I use xnview to change the dates manually they all change perfectly, but if I choose change the two file dates to the same as the exif date ( any exif date) it changes the 2 file dates ( Inc file modified) to 31/12/1969, this date appears nowhere in the file dates, so is a mystery But in all instances windows file explorer shows file date modified as empty, and also in file properties.

As a side note I thought I could change file dates in properties by right clicking and changing, but this is not possible, on any of my JPGs.

Really confused, as only 20 jpgs has this issue, the other files seem to be fine. I've created copies of these files and they behave the same.

The affected JPEG files might have corrupted or unusual metadata blocks, especially in their EXIF headers or file system timestamps. Sometimes, files can have inconsistent or corrupted timestamp data, causing Windows to display empty or invalid dates.
